Sevilla have confirmed that coveted midfield starlet Geoffrey Kondogbia will be leaving the club after the 20-year-old’s £17m release clause has been met, as stated on the La Liga side’s website.
Arsenal have been linked with the Frenchman in the past but it seems that the most likely destination for Kondogbia will be AS Monaco.
The Principality club have been spending big this summer upon their return to Ligue 1 and have already signed 12 new players and paid out more than £100m of owner Dmitry Rybolovlev’s money.
The most significant arrivals have been Radamel Falcao from Atletico Madrid and FC Porto duo Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez.
Now the club want to sign Kondogbia and it will see the Gunners missing out on another midfield target – with Luiz Gustavo having already chosen Wolfsburg instead of the Emirates Stadium.
The France international helped the under-20 side win the World Cup in Turkey this summer and has been growing in reputation ever since joining Sevilla 12 months ago.
Despite being relatively young, Kondogbia played 33 Spanish league matches last term following a transfer from Lens and as a result of good performances the midfielder’s value has rocketed.
